Here I am then at 185 lbs and now at 150…35 lbs lighter.

In my previous post 3 Keys to Reversing Diabetes I mention that learning is one of the keys. Whether you have diabetes, prediabetes, metabolic syndrome or weight to lose, the first thing to know is that it’s not YOU or YOUR WILLPOWER it’s your screwed up metabolism.
The first thing to learn is what will it take to reset your metabolism. I have no idea what screwed mine up in the first place, but it probably wasn’t just one thing, could be turning on the diabetic gene, not being breast fed, a family that fostered my sweet tooth, drinking at least one coke a day for most of my adult life, the bread, the pasta, and let’s not forget about the chocolate oh the chocolate. What I do know is that it can be fixed!
No matter what you’re trying to fix diet is the common thread. Finding out what diet suits your metabolism, lifestyle and most importantly, your taste buds is the first thing to learn. I wish there was a one size fits all diet that worked for everyone, that would be so simple, but alas there’s not.
Here’s a list of the major different diets that claim to accomplish one or all of our goals.
The different diets out there and what worked for me and what didn’t
- Low Carb, High Protein (Dr. Atkins)
- Low Carb, Low Fat (Dr. Poon)
- Low everything (Dr. Oz)
- High Carb, Low Fat (Vegan)
- and the one that worked best for me Low Carb, High Fat (Paleo, Plant Plus)
I’ll go over each of these diets in more detail and provide resources in posts to come.

Just so you know that I take my taste buds seriously, especially when it comes to chocolate and cake, here’s a link to a flourless, sugar free cake, that’s to die for and has only 16 carbs per decent size serving.
